About Us

Eyecare for life. For Everyone

At Vision Labs, we’re building the future of eyecare: proactive, accessible, and built around the individual.

For too long, vision care has been reactive - people seek help only after they notice something is wrong. But many eye conditions can be prevented or managed effectively if caught early. That’s why our mission is clear: eyecare for life, for everyone.

Founded out of Stanford University and led by experts in ophthalmology, digital health, and medical technology, Vision Labs is advancing a new model of care. Our first innovation, CLEA, is the world’s first FDA-exempt, smartphone-based corneal scanner. CLEA brings clinical-grade diagnostics out of the exam room and into the real world—making it possible to reach patients in schools, homes, and underserved communities around the globe.

But we don’t stop at detection. Vision Labs gives each patient a blueprint for their vision health over time. Our secure, cloud-based platform stores every scan and report, allowing individuals to track changes, share their data with healthcare providers, and make informed decisions throughout their lives. The result is a consistent, lifelong record that supports better outcomes and closes critical gaps in care.

Our vision is a world where no one loses sight due to late diagnosis or lack of access.

Our purpose is to remove the barriers—cost, complexity, mobility and fragmentation—that have historically limited access to high-quality eyecare.

We’re here to make prevention practical, personalized, and permanent.

This is Vision Labs: eyecare that evolves with you.

Our Story

Vision Labs started with a shared frustration—and a shared mission.

Each of us came to this work from different places: neonatal surgery suites, academic labs, global health programs, and health tech startups. But we all saw the same thing—vision care was falling short of its potential. The tools weren’t keeping up with the need. The systems were fragmented. And the people at the center—patients—were too often left behind.

Our founding team includes scientists, clinicians, and technologists from Stanford and MIT—with decades of experience in ophthalmology, diagnostics, and digital health. But this isn’t just professional for us—it’s personal. Some of us have lost family members to avoidable sight loss. We've watched people we love miss early signs, navigate confusing systems, or fall through the cracks because care came too late—or wasn't designed to reach them in time. Others of us, like our co-founder Dr. Darius Moshfeghi, spend our careers on the front lines of vision care—preventing blindness in over a third of the babies born in the U.S. through neonatal retinal surgery. Even in those high-acuity settings, we’ve experienced how outdated, immobile, and fragmented current tools can be. The gap between what we know is possible—and what’s actually being delivered—has become impossible to ignore.

Vision Labs was born out of this gap.

We set out to build the tools we wish we’d had—tools that are mobile, fast, clinically robust, and accessible far beyond the walls of specialist clinics. But more than that, we’re building a platform that gives individuals a blueprint for their vision health over time—making proactive care not just possible, but standard.

Our mission is clear: Eyecare for life, for everyone.

We are aligned not just by a business goal, but by a common calling—to move eyecare from episodic and reactive, to continuous and preventive. To give patients control. To give clinicians better tools. And to ensure no one’s vision is compromised simply because care wasn’t designed to meet them where they are.

We’re building Vision Labs because we’ve seen the cost of inaction.
And because we know what better looks like—scientifically, clinically and personally.
